Rootkit Hunter or Rkhunter is the open source Linux based scanner which will scan  backdoors and in-depth virus files.Rootkit Hunter scans hidden files and binary formats.Here is the steps to install Rootkit Hunter.

Steps:

– Login to the server using the root login details.

–  Follow the below to download Rootkit Hunter using wget,

   $ cd /download
                  $ wget http://ncu.dl.sourceforge.net/project/rkhunter/rkhunter/1.4.0/rkhunter-1.4.0.tar.gz

– Now start installation of  Rootkit Hunter

     $tar -xvf rkhunter-1.4.0.tar.gz
                    $cd rkhunter-1.4.0
                    $ ./installer.sh –layout default –install

– Update Rkhunter latest database using the below commands,

$ /usr/local/bin/rkhunter –update
                  $ /usr/local/bin/rkhunter –propupd

– To Scan the complete server using Rkhunter execute the command,

$ rkhunter –check

– After complete the scan Rkhunter store logs in /var/log/rkhunter.log directory.
