Whatsapp introduced new feature that is Two-Step verification which is a security protocol. Interms of single password using this you may need one more password and additional login details to check Whatsapp.

Incase in Whatsapp settings Two-Step Verification option is not there first update the latest version of Whatsapp.In Latest update you will get Two-Step Verification.

In first screen Enable Two-Step Verification option and that will prompt for six-digit passcode , need to re-enter to confirm this.This password is different then your device password.Now you have to enter the register email address for future notifications.

After click on Done Two-Step verification will complete. If you want to disable ,Change passcode,Change Email Address. If if want to setup Whatsapp in New phone you have to enter the passcode and one time code which will send to you register number.
